about

The swarmandal in actuality is a Hindustani zither tuned very specifically to the pitch sequence of a raga and usually used to accompany a solo singer. My swarmandal in actuality is a zither from German Democratic Republic tuned to some approximate raga that evolves into some other stuning every playing session. Here I have changed things up further by applying guitar slide, brushes, paper, spoons pine-cones, a meditation bowl, bits of guitar string, forked plectrae and explored the timbral ranges while avoiding any other kind electrical device (no ebow, for instance). Panning effects are strictly the result of the instrument moving between the microphones.
I hope you enjoy the album.
