The Man From Atlantis Fantastic eerie improv by Jeff Gburek of prepared piano with scrapping and scratching strings combined with free improvised guitar, cello, and found objects. Favorite track: plucked lowly & scraped gently for electric guitar played by jeff gburek.

about

In 2014 I began detailed recordings involving an old upright piano we found in the flat where we live in Wilda quarter of Poznan. The instrument lay unused for untold years and had suffered damages of neglect and perhaps of transport. It had come all the way from a Northern region of Poland called Kaszubia, from one of our landlady's family property that they lost or sold off. Upon learning this, we began calling it the Kaszubian Piano. I recorded, composed and experimented with the sound board, preparing strings, applying motors, ventilators and using bows and rosined strings to generate sounds. I invited musician and sound artist colleagues to create with me music based on these sound files with the idea of publishing a compilation. In one instance, there was a live recording session of myself and Poznan based cellist Agnieszka Kowalczyk. Not everyone who I invited could participate but I decided that I would use sounds I sent to them to compose new pieces dedicated to them, reflecting the concept of it being a collective undertaking. This is also because I found the sounds and moods still every evocative and beyond the beyond. Bandcamp allows for a way of sharing without investing in physical media. So here we are. One of our collaborators, Martyna Poznanska, now based in Berlin, created a work of great, delicate atmospheric beauty. I thank Marco Lucchi and Patrizia Oliva for being in my life and giving direction to the sounds that I sent to them and which I now send to all, along with the others
