about

Billy Greene died on September 10, 2001. He was a drummer in a band I played with called Poltroon in San Francisco in the late 90's. He was a friend, a band-mate, an accomplished stop-animation film-maker, gentle and witty, quite tall and thin, the son of Tinker Greene, a poet that I knew before I started playing with Billy in the band. So, a nexus of memories, a piece of my life, a piece of my finger cut off on Sept. 9, Billy shot to death on the 10th, and the next morning those strange fumes drifting across the whole of the USA on September 11th, 2001, that continue to drift until today . I recorded my "Song for Billy" in 2002 onto hand-held cassette recorders, live overdubs in the room, no second takes. I performed my first convolutions in C+ based on the digitized recordings in the days after the originals were recorded. This resulted in the two tracks those who'd bought the CD would hear. I have chosen to perform a further convolution which combines those two tracks into one "Song for Billy Greene" for this digital re-release in 2013.
