Continuing the Friday night tesquinada until the wee hours. I awake and go to the nearby stream to "record the waters", terrified. They allege there are small vipers that dangle from the trees and descend to bite around the eyes and that the venom is lethal within two hours. A boa constrictor lives on the roof of our building. I mixed in the electronic percussive sounds later, keeping her in mind. At minute mark 5.35 you begin to hear the beaded frame-drum. Two different moments of that frame drum. At minute mark 12.22 you hear Nacho Palma Villega describe the "chapareke" -- a jaw-harp made from a branch of about one meter long--- and he tells us which tree was cut down to make this instrument and then plays the song he calls " waayoumenawaheema". When asked to translate this title into Spanish, he laughs and says: "Bonita cancion tarahumara." The photo is not my own, since I didn't take a camera with me. But he might even be an older version of my guide Nacho Palma Villega, who knows... it's been some time...
