about

Djalma Primordial Science -- www.djalma.com -- had many incarnations and the whole story may never be told. This recording captures one of the variants of the NYC incarnations on October 11, 2001 at the Knitting Factory, quite near what they were calling by then Ground Zero. The devastation was still palpable. The tension couldn't help but show up in the work although it is not a doomsday set by any means. Since this was a dance/theater/music project, there is something invisible, something not supplied in this document. But the dancer herself does emerge with her voice in this concert more than once, adding a certain edge. I will gather my thoughts about the event and perhaps later describe Ephia's costume and antics on that occasion and add some other notes about the instrumentation which, because it was at the Knitting Factory, offered the piano for our use. The Players: Ephia: dance/voice/shorwave radio. Jeff Gburek: percussion, zither, gamelan, gongs, cynbals, rebab. Neel Murgai: sitar, persian daf drum, throat-singing, tambourine, Chris Forsyth: electric guitar. Rich Gross: clarinet, piano.

Thanks for listening.
