tumbled on the table, streaked with pastel
turpentine, linseed, rape-seed oil
while up on the willow stem, the peak-point
of the branch destined soon to decay,
the jaw-line, the beak, or the talon
of the falcon, curls a tender claw
cupping the coming bud-head
white as moon or the snow-dawn
pressing me so early
