about

Originally released on my Orphan Sounds label. Electric guitar, looped mixing board, analog processing. Recorded direct to digital disc in one session in New Mexico, 2002.

About this idea: “Marked sound”–to challenge the transparency of digital recording and interrogate its internal structures & create sounds that would not exist without the medium itself pushed into/against the digital grain: with analog, real-time tools, chase the level of distortion signals into self-cancellation and crackling “silences”, hydraulic, gushing and soaring white noise, explosions of color, tubes of rushing air, valves, very physical, at times sounding like the work of a horn or an journey through the intestines of a particle accelerator.

The original art work consisted of hand-lettered ink and two ribbons of black electrical tape affixed to the cover.
